Exactly Catherine...my thoughts are with Dorothy, Pablo and his wife and children and extended family...I can't stop thinking about it...it is so so so sad...

Janet are you insinuating that Ray's family knew about his cancer?

john densmore thought the use of the name "the doors of the 21st century" was misleading. he wasn't in the band, and neither was jim morrison. his contention was that this band wasn't "the doors". john densmore or jim morrison's estate never said that the new band could not play doors music. they were just opposed to the use of the name "the doors" and that the fact that on posters, "of the 21st century" was in a smaller point size and not obvious -- so, "the doors" was very prominent and, in the same logo type as the original band logo, and the "of the 21st century" was really small.

there was a countersuit for 40 million dollars, brought by ray and robbie.

i don't think the book was harsh, it was recounting the trial. i think though, that the timing of the release of this book was unfortunate, but, no one could have known.

there was also a very heartfelt letter to ray and robby at the end.

my opinion is that john densmore stood up for what he thought was right. jim's family agreed.
Jlo, I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm 1/4 of the way through the book but people who are saying he threw Ray under the bus obviously haven't read the book. Jim and Pam's family weren't opposed to Ray and Robby playing Doors music, just of calling themselves The Doors, because they weren't The Doors because Jim died and John wasn't included in the tour. Why are people making it out to be more complicated than that? John gave them both several opportunities to change the name of their tour and offered to settle out of court. They didn't budge! John did everything he could to keep it out of the courts. And now Ray's dead and the timing of the release of his book is unfortunate...or is it? Maybe this will help John and Robby patch things up...and I skipped to the end and John did write an open letter to Ray and Robby about hopefully making amends. People really need to read John's book before they go having diarrhea of the mouth. It's annoying! I love John. He's a good guy.

Why was Ray in Germany? For medical treatment? Or was he touring? Also, I don't know how I feel about the face that John released a statement around the same time as Robby did and in all of the news media all I seem to see is Robby's statement. WTF? It's like once again the media is dragging John through the coals. Can't everyone just realize Ray is dead and John and Robby will probably reconcile? And eventually I think Ray would've come around, too. John was extending an olive branch to them both, especially Ray. They were all brothers. I wasn't aware of Ray's cancer and no one on this forum seemed to be aware of it, either. It blew me away. My grandfather found out he had lung cancer on thanksgiving and was dead by Christmas. I don't think you have a lot of time when that stuff hits you...and it may have been inoperable just like my grandfather's lung cancer was.

I think...as awful as this news is...that maybe Robby & John could reconcile...wouldn't that be amazing? Jim & Ray smiling from the great beyond...still can't stop thinking about it...
