Year of The Doors Aftermath
01 November 2012 - 08:48 PM
Felt the need this needed to be started as the Hollywood Bowl thread seems to have been hijacked with pure bickering instead of actually discussing the new HB release. So, please, let your testosterone and estrogen fly here instead...
Grateful Dead in Paris in June of '71
06 October 2012 - 07:23 PM
Was just listening to the weekly radio program The Grateful Dead Hour, and they're talking to Rosie McGee, who was in The Dead's tribe from 1966 to the early 1970s and she mentioned about The Dead being in Paris in 1971. This is the first I've heard of this, but apparently they were there in June of that year and although The Dead and The Doors were not exactly the best of friends, I wonder if Morrison or The Dead knew of each other being in the same foreign city and if there was any effort on either party to connect at some point. Just an interesting coincidence and something to ponder, and here's a brief recap of The Dead's June 1971 Paris visit...

The San Francisco Whisky A Go-Go?
29 September 2012 - 08:34 PM
Just happened to stumble upon this article about the Grateful Dead which mentions them cancelling scheduled performances at the San Fran Whisky in March of 1967, which also mentions that The Doors played there in front of "tiny crowds" in February of 1967, which kind of fits in the timeline of them being in the Bay-area with The Matrix gigs. But this is the first I've heard of there being a San Francisco-based Whisky, and The Doors appearing there. Does anyone know anything more about the club, or if The Doors did actually play there?

"Strange Days" video
26 August 2012 - 08:34 PM
I recall having a VHS of an official Doors release back in the day that included a video of the song "Strange Days" that from what I remember was directed by Ray, but I can't find the video online or any information about it. I have The Doors Collection and Soundstage Performances DVDs and it is not on either of them, so was wondering if anyone can refresh my memory as to what release this video is included under, as I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining this whole thing, and, if memory serves me correct, was a pretty damn good clip.
"Moonlight Drive" in the movie "Two Lane Blacktop"
17 August 2012 - 05:50 PM
One of my favorite movies has always been Two Lane Blacktop, a 1971 flick directed by Monte Hellman starring James Taylor and Dennis Wilson, which for those who haven't seen it, can be quickly described as Easy Rider with muscle cars instead of choppers. But there's a scene in the movie where they're cruising a local hangout at night scoping the hot rods out, all the while "Moonlight Drive" is playing in the background. As far as I know, this is the only movie to have featured a Doors song while Morrison was alive, and was wondering if anyone here knows how The Doors became involved or if there is any connection to the director or the two stars with the band, being they are all L.A.-based. Any input would be appreciated, but anyway, here's a clip to the scene I'm referring to, and the "Moonlight Drive" part starts a little after the 2:00 point.
