So I'm in the car Saturday afternoon and Break On Through comes on one of our classic rock stations (96.1 The Mountain I think it was) so I crank it up and hit the accelerator. It's a good thing traffic was light because what I heard next surprised me so much I almost drove off the road:

Instead of the "she get... she get....she get...." we've (or at least I've) heard for the last 45 years or so, this time that nasty word that got cut out back in the Sixties was back in, and Jim was singing the song as written!

SHE GET HIGH, SHE GET HIGH, SHE GET HIIIIIIGH....

It didn't seem to be a live version, either. It sounded like the studio version as originally recorded, but I could be wrong.
Of course this is the state whose then-governor Gary Johnson came out in support of legalizing the weed back in the 1990s, albeit IIRC it was only towards the end of his second term when he didn't have to worry about the political repercussions* but still... pretty neat, pretty neat.

*He's now running for president as a Libertarian, I believe, and is sticking to his guns in re MJ. I may just vote for him. Better Gov. Doofus (as we called him then) than either of those other two jackasses.

When I met Hendrix we just talked about the weather. When I met Jim Morrison we sat around looking at girls’ legs and discussing who had the best ass.

The unedited version has been available on CD since 1999, but I have never heard it played on the radio. My theory is that radio stations never bothered exchanging the edited version for the unedited version. I don't think it was a deliberate attempt to suppress the unedited version.

I hear that version of the song every once in a while up here in Boston.  I guess it depends on the dj.

Radio stations seem to always play the popular songs of bands, I like when you hear a "rare" song.  I get excited when I hear The Wasp, they rarely play that one!

I tend to hit the accelerator when Doors songs come on the radio too! :P

Gary Johnson was talking about legalizing Cannabis during the middle of his Governorship of New Mexico circa 2000-2002.

It didn't matter what he wanted, it wasn't up to him. The state legislature did not allow it. The problem is in the state. The way it was done in CA worked fair. However, Gov. Gray Davis had to be recalled because he fought prop. 215. He was a Liberal and therefore needed to go.

Have you seen The Grey yet? It is only about 6 months old, and it is out on DVD so no excuses not to.

Sticking to his guns? What can he really do? It is better to work against the democrats at all levels and make them call a time out. This is what the Thunder must do to Miami in Game 5 like they did tonight in the 1st. It turned as soon as the 2nd came, but it worked for a time. Keep up opposition to Liberals at a high level. The Heat make the game better though, but we always want the strongest to win.

Edit: Legalization will always fail when people refer to it as 'getting high'. Only God is High. God is the Most High. Anyone who tries to get high is going against God.

If they have a want to get high, then God will fulfill their want. Do you know what God did to Adam? He put him to sleep and took a rib out of him for a want.

I don't make the connection between Classic Rock, Jim's mentioning of drug use, and Werewolves in New Mexico. Why not add in Don Cerrone's 10 acre ranch?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Cerrone

Classic Rock does not vary according to the state. Classic Rock is set and fixed in stone. It can not be altered or added to. It must be made between the years 1962 and 1980. Not before, not after.
this time that nasty word that got cut out back in the Sixties was back in, and Jim was singing the song as written!
Who knows how it was "written"? That was during the time when he was getting his songs from God.

Jim sang what he felt, not necesarrily what he wrote. Also, if Jim supposedly 'wrote' the song, then he would know it so well that he wouldn't be singing it as written... he would be improvising.

Are you saying that he looked at a lyric sheet when he recorded the song? It sure sounds like you are saying that Jim couldn't remember the lyrics to 'Break on Through'.

Can we really say that they 'cut' the word? It is what it is....an edit.

Consider 'Peace Frog' before the abortion stories were added. The song initially contained just Jim vocalizing the words 'she came' over and over.

The point is that by 1968, all of Jim's recordings consisted of a series of edits to piece together vocal tracks. WFTS was recorded one line at a time since one line is all that Jim could sing in one take. I wonder if a true abortion song is not what is needed in today's world in order to get things back in balance. A Christian warrior is what it would take.

Hi Miz, there's a good documentary on creating the first album and Bruce Botnick in particular revels in the memory of recording the vocals.

Jim sounds like he was pretty lit on that take, "Build me a woman" and "Mental Floss". Sounds like they pulled him right off the street one afternoon after leaving a bar and stuck a microphone in front of him. (Manzarek gets pretty x-rated as well, throwing in some Polish references.)

I was just standing there
in front of the 'Delicatessen'
and all these rabbies ran up
and a bunch of Indians and freaks
and monsters and f.... just started ...
mhmh... talking in all these weird languages...
