I read an article in the May issue of Rolling Stone about the death of San Francisco acid king Owsley "Bear" Stanley's death last year. He's well known to Dead and Airplane fans and is mentioned in a couple of Doors books, notably for telling Ray that the Doors "had too many holes in their music." I believe Greg Shaw notes that he personally gave Jim a batch of his LSD. The article talked about how he taped over 1,000 concerts of all the bands that came through San Fran between 1966 and 1975 and they are starting to see the light of day. A bunch of bands are mentioned like the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, etc. The Doors aren't mentioned but it seems like the Doors would fill all the chronological, venue and psychedelic requirements to have been taped by Stanley. Anybody have any inside info or opinions? Jeff, any chance you guys might (or hopefully already are) following up on this?

My own opinion, and I could be very wrong, but it's hard for me to believe that of all the thousands of shows that were recorded at the Fillmore and Winterland, and other BG productions, by Owsley and the BG crew, that somehow The Doors were never recorded, being that they were one of, if not, the most popular f'n American band at that time, and something just doesn't seem right that the BG crew just decided to pass on recording The Doors for no reason, someone has an answer...
