The Doors Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival - August 30, 1970

Ok I have a few questions about this concert.  It seems the only video of The Doors in this concert is "When the Music is over" And "The End"  Yet there is audio of other songs such as
"Light My Fire"
"Back door man"
"Break on through"
"Ship of Fools"
"Roadhouse Blues"


(1) Would anyone know if there was video of all the songs, the Doors did there?  If so any links would be appreciated.



Also I am interested in some rumors I heard about this concert.  I read that Jim would not do WoodStock because of the fear of getting shot.  Also he said during a Isle of wright interview.  He came to Isle of Wright because he missed Woodstock and he had sour grapes because he did not go to Woodstock.  
I also read he asked that the main Stage lights be kept off because he did not want to get shot.  Yet, He has done this at other concerts.  He liked the dark for dark songs like "The End"

Just wondering if you guys could either debunk these rumors or confirm them.

However the producers want way too much money for it to be released.

The Doors ain´t paying.

They were included in the movie from iow. You will never see the actual concert. Too much money asked. And very rightly they refuse to pay.

I just saw the FULL IOW concert of THE WHO.  I wonder if they paid the ransom.


I also wonder why The Doors did not buy this footage back in 1970's.  When the price would of been much much cheaper.  Looks like The Doors dropped the ball

I think everyone can buy the rights for the concert at iow. This means you too can buy it.

Time does the trick. During the 70's there was no conception of "The Doors legacy" and its business, music.

The Doors in their youth, had simply other intentions with their music. Ball was not dropped, it was rollin'.

It is a shame, because the concert was 26 and 31 August 1970.  Wasn't the last concert in New Orleans December 12, 1970?  So the IOW was one of the last performances.  Would be really nice gift for fans to be able to see it.  Not hold it for hostage.

I don't disagree, hope someday we will and think time wil take care of it. I personally love the version of The End at IOW.

Although I do agree with Hamlet, if the price is unreasonable now because of the owner than The Doors are to stay reasonable.

Just to confirm, yeah Dec. 12. Seems like it was a sad one. One more reason to appreciate IOW as one of the last one's.

Was footage from IOW included in "When You're Strange?"  It's been a while since I've watched it.  I would think Tom DeCillo would have paid to have such a significant performance in the documentary.

I find that theory intriguing.  Who did Jim think would take a shot at him?  Was it because of the trouble in Miami?

Yes, footage of The Doors performing The End from IOW was used in When You're Strange.

I read (do not know if true) that Jim got more and more paranoid of large audiences.   I do not want to start a false rumor.  Just asking if what I heard was true

Honestly, I read so much on the doors and Jim.  That I am not sure where.  That is why I asked my question with I do not know if it is true.

It could of been an interview with the Doors.  Saying Jim was paranoid.  That seems to ring a bell.

I guess I was looking for confirmation.

I don't understand why the band would take bookings in venues that made Jim nervous like that.  I do think that his style of performing was probably best suited to smaller, more intimate settings, and I can imagine the effect of his performance being lost in a stadium setting, which became a common venue for popular bands later on.  

So often, I get the impression from Ray and others that stage appearances in general were--or at least, became--a strain for Jim.  And since, according to these people, Jim was drinking more and more, I find it odd that they would take such a risk, booking large concert halls and stadiums during that period.

Why don't the IOW film makers put the concert on a DVD and sell it themselves?  Why do they need the Doors to buy it?

This is one of those legal mumbo-jumbos I've always had a hard time grasping. If a band signed a release at a fest like this, or for anything, and expressed their consent for the footage to be used as in the case of The Doors at the IOW, who rightfully owns the material? Murray Lerner already used portions of The Doors' performance on his documentary of the festival, so did The Doors sign off on what was used or the whole performance? Seems like it's in Lerner's hand as to what to do with the footage, unless there is the same lergal B.S. that held up the Matrix masters, and if that's the case, a professional filmer/recorder has the same rights as a bootlegger when it comes to releasing this stuff these days. Is there a statute of limitations/ownership on this stuff, or who rightfully owns this stuff if the band signed off on it? I know the Hendrix camp already released his IOW performance, so did how did they acquire the rights? Perhaps that will answer what The Doors have to do to get it out there...

Who owns the rights to their songs, the Doors themselves?  And maybe the surviving Coursons and Morrisons?
