What is a flat transfer CD?
Well, as I understand, a flat transfer is when you try to get the same sound on the CD as in the original tapes.
Those old first presses of CDs in the 80's were mostly flat transfer, meaning
not remastered.
Everything (I think,) after 1999 is either the same remaster a 'The Complete Studio Recordings' or the 40th mixes.
Before that some are remastered, like the DCC Steve Hoffman remasters, but some of them are not, like the famous West Germany Target CDs.
