I was listening to this radio program today and before they played "C'mon Marianne" by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, the DJ mentioned how the intro to the song strongly influenced the intro to The Doors' "Touch Me." Never heard of or picked up on that before and it does seem pretty similar, but, just thought I'd throw it out there...

I had never heard that fact, and I wonder if it is something that the DJ picked up on himself or did Ray say that somewhere?

The riff for 'C'mon Marianna' and 'Touch Me' is the same. The Doors tweak it enough to make it their own. Rock is Riff-based music. All Robby and Ray had to do was play a riff. The Rolling Stones is just a bunch of riffs, as is Led Zeppelin.

The Doors did their song as Jazz-Rock, a genre which is Rock with Jazz instrumentation. It was trendy in Jazz to 'quote' Pop songs, just as a way of recognition. It was cool. It came from Be Bop and Charlie Parker who would insert musical quotes into his solos.

Also of interest, Jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded an album of Classic Rock covers before his 1968 death. There was a crossover going on.

Crazy & Defiance, Only Frankie Valli song that I know that applies here is:
"Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You". So, like, know you can't read this Defiant; been banned
for something....
