Just stumbled across this on the Life magazine website. Says there are some never before published photos of the band performing at the Fillmore East. Maybe they are and maybe they aren't--I don't remember seeing them before. And Jim catches some pretty serious air in the the pic of him jumping center stage--perhaps Nike would have come out with some "Air Morrisons" if they were around back then, which I'm sure he'd endorse...

Air Morrison* is right. I remember how impressed I was by his stage moves when I saw them at the Felt Forum in January 1970. I'd seen the Stones the previous November at MSG, and while Jagger was an amazing dancer, after awhile I just wanted him to sit down and shut up. I actually got tired watching him. (His voice seemed weak too--oftentimes it was hard to hear him above the band.)
Jim had no such problems. He didn't move very often, but when he did it really jolted you back in your seat--great leaps that would have done Nureyev proud. Very powerful.
So was his voice, of course--there was never a time when the band was in any danger of drowning him out.

I like the photos taken from the back of the stage showing the theatres where they played, showing the packed houses that the Doors faced when they performed onstage.
