Too soon to tell, but looks pretty good. Stand by. Either way, it WILL be available digitally, but I really want this Box Set to be available, so I'm fighting the good fight. Stay tuned.

If it becomes digital only the price should definitely be lowered. If this becomes the case, will those of us who already pre-ordered and paid in full receive a partial refund? Additionally, I don't intend to sound rude but honestly how are you guys possibly taking immediate payment pre-orders if the product might not even exist?

I think the only way I'd stomach digital only is if it's available at a massively reduced price (no more than $8-10/disc) and is available in 24-bit lossless FLACs. I won't pay 5 cents for the whole thing in mp3.

Yawn. If it only comes in mp3 you'll still buy it. I mean honestly cut the comedy please. I want the box too but seriously if it's digital only, I'm in regardless. Any Doors nut would be. Please.

Hey Jeff, if UK wants to do it does that mean they will even though the US won't? What I mean is, are they the same so if one does it they both do it or are they separate? If they are separate would that mean we could still buy the box through the UK???? If so then I'd buy the box thru UK and the hardcore nuts like us could still be happy if US Warner Bros. snores at the wheel. Please let us know. Thanks Jeff.
Sidebar: When is the deadline date on this??? Doesn't it have to be soon with Jan release date or will this now be pushed back???

A few observations to share with Rhino:
1.) If it's going to be digital only, the price of the super deluxe edition should be reduced, since they won't have any packaging and production costs.
2.) Mp3s are compressed, lossy and they suck. Consider FLAC
3.) Other legacy 70s acts are having success this season with multi-disc CD box sets including 5 or more discs: Pink Floyd (Immersion box sets: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall), Jethro Tull (Aqualung), Grateful Dead (Europe 72). So if Rhino doesn't think a Doors box will sell as well, is that a reflection of Rhino's perception of The Doors -- or Rhino's inability to market product? Is the band forced to use Rhino due to the Warner relationship?
4.) If it's going to be digital only, why not release it NOW? You won't have to print or replicate discs?
Personally, I'm not a fan of downloads, just because hard drives usually fail every few years and I have to keep redubbing the digital files to other hard drives or optical media as a backup. It's a pain in the ass. FLAC would be OK, but mp3s suck.
I think Rhino should offer a blended model-->put out the CDs for folks that want CDs -- and put out the download for folks that want downloads.
If Rhino is worried about profit margins, maybe they should stop putting out crap in CD boxes like the Monkees "Instant Replay" box set: http://www.rhino.com...-deluxe-edition
And finally, Rhino has it all wrong. If any demographic wants downloads its the young folks that just buy individual songs and don't care about sound quality . A 5 disc box is targeted at a more seasoned older hardcore fan that likely prefers physical media. My two cents.

A 16 bit CD contains more audio information that a lossy 256kbps mp3 file. This is because mp3s discard some of the audio information in order to reduce the file size. ==>From Wikipedia: "Lossy compression enables even greater reductions in file size by removing some of the data. Lossy compression typically achieves far greater compression but somewhat reduced quality than lossless compression by simplifying the complexities of the data."

WTF! Boy this took a turn for the worst!! From the beginning of this project the promotion aspect was non existant, not to mention details of the box itself it would not be surprising if sales were garbage! Nobody wants to drop 100.00 for a box set of surprises. I myself purchased it only now to learn of this half assed operation by rhino you would think after all these years they would get this right what a shame. This could go very bad very quickly!! Get ready and bend over!!

our members here prefer that 5CD box than any other release
maybe you can consider push back that expensive analogue sets to RSD 2012, for not to be in competition with the Long Awaited L.a.woman 41st Ann Box Set

That's my biggest question. I'm still purchasing it regardless of the format but I would significantly prefer the CD box over just downloaded files. However, I think what you pose is a very paramount question. If this box set was not approved by Rhino and not actually slated for production, how were they possibly taking pre-orders that were billed immediately, instead of upon the shipping date, for something that still potentially doesn't exist?? If there had been any kind of track listing, even preliminarily, for this set, maybe more people would have pre-ordered it (I did). Instead, people are forced to make a $100 decision absolutely in the blind other than having a listing for one CD with only 8 tracks of outtakes/alternates. If this box set becomes download only, those of us who pre-ordered it should absolutely be entitled to a complimentary physical copy of the 2 CD set.

I would like it all for download, including the 5cd box set.
I donīt think the sound quality is that bad. Not at all!
The snippet, "She Smells so Nice" is great quality. I couldnīt care less about FLAC.
So many factors are important if you want to listen and judge music acoustically.
And believe me, FLAC doesnīt really cut it compared to vinyl and pro hi-fi sound system.
I say, let us hear the music for Christmas! Get it out, now!
