Which concert was the 45 minute version? In 'No one Gets Out Of Here Alive' Jerry Hopkins and Daniel Sugarman write about a concert where the band was upset with the audience just wanting hits played, so they played COTL for 45 minutes and then walked off stage.

There is something about it in "Break On Through", but I don´t remember where the concert  was.
As far as I remember the audience wanted to hear " Light My Fire" so they played it. When they where finished with it the audience wanted to hear it again! That was more as Jim could take, so he sat down at the edge of the stage and asked them what they wanted. When they screamed for "Light My Fire" he said something like ....you want more than that, something special...and than he did what he wanted to do and recited all 145 lines from COTL and walked off the stage.

I just looked it up for you. The concert you must be talking about was at the L.A. Forum on December 14th 1968.

You can read about it in "Break On Trough" on page 276.

If we listen to one of the three circulating recordings of this show, we can conclude the band played a 19 min version of TCOTL folllowing a 12 min LMF...

So much to what you can read in books...

I have to admit I´m a little envious. Lucky you I wish I had one, or two, or best all three ciculating recordings of that concert. But over here in Europe there is probably no chance to ever get your hands on it...

I always remember that because the Forum is where the LA Lakers used to play before they made the home at Staples Center. Kobe gotta win this Christmas day battle against D Rose and Chicago Bulls.

On November 14, 1970, Elvis Presley did two shows (one in the afternoon, another one in the evening) with 18,700 and 18,698 paid admissions. This was during Elvis' second tour. He would return his 10th tour, to perform for two more sold out shows on May 11, 1974 (with 18,500 paid admissions each).

Between 1970-1977, Led Zeppelin played at The Forum 16 times (their live album, How the West Was Won was partly recorded at the venue), including a run of 6 sold-out dates in 1977; one of these shows comprises the famous bootleg, Listen To This Eddie (Eddie Van Halen, prior to the release of Van Halen's first album, was reported to be among those in attendance).

Cream performed during their Farewell Tour on October 18, 1968, with Deep Purple as their opening act. Deep Purple recorded their part of the show, which was later released as a live album, entitled Inglewood – Live in California.
