Remastered "Absolutely Live" on 180g virgin vinyl! I read a comment by Jeff about it!

When did this happen? I didn't hear anything about it! Usually I am up on the play... are there any others I have missed? Was this before or after the vinyl box set?

It's amazing that there is a deamnd of sorts for remastered lps.I mean, great. But,why is there not MORE of a demand for A-L on dvd audio(or SACD)?Same w/ American Prayer.

I guess now,Dvd Audio or SACD are perhaps somewhat pass'e.Blu-ray seems to be the future for these kinds of things.

I know Jeff you mentioned you folks may be looking into this.Sure would be nice to eventually see all Doors' materials on this format.Mneaing American Prayer,Other Voices,Full Circle and all the BMA releases(not to mentiuon the studio albums w/ new bonus materials).

I know this is probably waaaaaaaaaaay in the future but,at least you guys are starting off on a high point w/ WYS on blu-ray sometime in July/10.

Sadly, DVD-A and SACD seem to be dead as viable formats for new releases.

As you may know, I am a big fan of both. I was the music industry consultant to Dolby® Labs for several years on DVD-A. And I own (and enjoy immensely) what is arguably the greatest SACD player ever made, the EMM Labs Meitner CDSD-SE and DAC2-SE combo.

But, sadly, you and I are in the (overwhelming) minority - and my GUESS is that, as you said, Blu-Ray will develop as the hi-rez audio format of choice, but, we will see. My track record as accurate prognosticator of software trends is not stellar.

Jeff,

Check out this universal Blu Ray player from Oppo.  It plays all formats, including SACD and DVD-A.  Only $499.

DVD-A may be dead; however, SACD is still being issued by Analogue Productions and Mobile Fidelity.

Check out these new SACD titles from the legendary Blue Note catalog.  I've picked up several and they are amazing:

SACD offers hybrid capability.  SACD on one layer, and redbook 16bit CD on another layer.

Yes, I'm familiar with all. That Oppo's quite a player for the money, BTW.

Believe me, as I'd said, I LOVE SACD and DVD-A. My player alone is almost $20,000. And worth it to me. I have over 100 SACDs.

But, sadly, I am not a statistically significant sample. I am a nut. So there's me, you, and a few hundred other buyers (maybe a coupla thousand?) Note I'd said "viable." The costs of producing and releasing one of these titles makes it unworkable with present economics and limited audience - and, O, how I wish it were doable!

I've never had a vinyl or even ever had a listen. Obvious questions from me to you would be: why do you like vinyl so much? Is it somehow a different experience?

Vinyl has a somewhat warmer sound--it's hard to describe.  What I like the most about my original vinyl albums is how nice the packaging is.  Every album has fantastic cover art, or a full sized poster, or opens like a book with all the lyrics inside, and oftentimes there is art and lyrics on the inner sleeve as well.  The puny little CD booklets just don't measure up to the full size LP covers.

Hello Jeff,

In 1999, I sent a self-produced booklet for Absolutely Live to The Doors Management. It might even still be in an archive somewhere at the office. At the time, I was (contrary to nowadays) manically involved in Doors collecting and writing/compiling books about my favorite band. Danny Sugerman wasn't particularly fond of my initiative, and he mocked it quite a bit. Still, I meant it as a prototype of how things could have been done. You should realise, that was a few years after Absolutely Live had been released on CD, with that ugly nineties sleeve design.

I highly welcome the vinyl release with original artwork. I can only hope that, if the CD release will be realised, the booklet will feature all the restored original artwork and photos, and perhaps some extra's - essay, contemporary article about recording the then new live album, unseen photos (there probably are a few left over which were not included in the Live in NY release?), to name a few options. Of course Bruce Botnick's recording notes as we know them from Bright Midnight releases should not be absent.

I would prefer two discs, each consisting of 'side 1/2' and 'side 3/4', maybe even one or two unheard bonus tracks from the 1970 tour?

Anyway, I could ramble on even longer. I'll stop here.

FRED

I'd like to see "Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine" get a new release as well.

The artwork alone would be worth it.
