Thanks Jeff for getting that to us first. I love how LMF from Sullivan is on here. Depp doing Jim's poetry is a great call. I've already pre-ordered. Can't wait.

Thanks again

Sign me up. Thanks Jeff.

A nice twist with Johnny Depp reading Jim's poetry. Heck Depp's reading may get my wife to start listening to The Doors.

Hi Jeff:

If this track list is still fluid, I'd recommend including at least one or two QUALITY rarities which would increase sales, at least with fans who have become jaded with greatest hits releases. No rarity means reduced sales figures.  Many folks will just not buy this as they own everything already.

What about including Paris Blues?  If you only include one rarity, this unheard LA Woman outtake would be near the top of most folk's wish lists. Is this track really partially erased by Ray's son per urban legend?  Is the multitrack gone? Does a 1/4" mixdown exist? Do they at least have a compact cassette? What form does Paris Blues exist in? Is there an acetate?  Anything? What more fitting final track to end the CD soundtrack given Jim's fate? There is so much interest in this song that including it on the CD (even in a low fidelity form if that's all that has survived) would really drive sales of the CD. Why not include Paris Blues if the Doors have it in the archive?

What about including some of the Norman Mailer poetry readings on the CD from the Nagra tapes instead of so much Depp? Who owns these Nagra tapes? Lisciandro?

Even adding one track from Matrix would give context to the quality of the early live shows before they became famous.

Thanks, Jeff.  Looking forward to seeing the movie in April or May (hopefully it will come to FLA) and I will be pre-ordering the CD soon.

Having Johnny Depp and Light My Fire from Ed Sullivan on the album was a great idea.

If you decide to have one or two bonus tracks on the CD, I would love to see a live song from the Matrix or Roundhouse on it.

Thanks again.  Keep up the great work !

How many times are you going put the same tracks on different CD releases!!!!!!!

Defiantly not worth $20+ for it!!!

I disagree.

First of all it is a soundtrack... secondly, read the track listings again!
The Down, Across & Up DVD is now available. It is a multi-region DVD. The DVD and book are available through our website.

Hi Jeff,

Please see the approach taken for the Bob Dylan CD soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese documentary "Bob Dylan: No Direction Home."

Here's the link:  http://www.amazon.co...g/dp/B000A4AWRW

This CD soundtrack included 26 previously unreleased songs, including many not shown in the film.

The Beatles Anthology included many unreleased tracks, including many not used in the Anthology documentary.

Both projects were big sellers for Dylan and the Beatles.

While the Doors may have a lesser number of rarities in their archive than Dylan or The Beatles, as these examples show, it still makes good financial sense to at least include a couple of rarities on this single disc When You're Strange soundtrack to drive sales figures for the Doors/Warner, as well as provide a value proposition for fans to buy this CD when they already own everything on the current proposed tracklisting.

Why not include Paris Blues?  This would be a fitting finale to the CD.  Check out these lyrics from the previously unreleased LA Woman outtake, recorded only 3 or 4 months before Morrison departed for Paris.  Why not include this in the film?

Know where I'm goin', can't remember where I've been
Know right where I'm goin', can't remember where I've been
Goin' to the city of love, gonna start my life all over again

Once I was young now I'm gettin' old
Once I was warm, now I feel cold
Well, I'm goin' overseas, gonna grab me some of that gold

Well, that WOULD be great. However, the "urban myth" about "Paris Blues" being partially erased/recorded over is, sadly, true. So.....no Paris Blues.

And, as  "value proposition," as you termed it (which I like), this was designed as the companion piece to the film - not just another release of compiled tracks. There are some studio tracks, some live tracks, Isle Of Wight, Danish TV, Ed Sullivan Show, and....Johnny Depp reading Jim Morrison' poetry(!!) So, I think it's a GREAT value! But....if this is not a "value proposition" for you, then, best leave this one alone. Go buy the remastered "Absolutely Live" on 180g virgin vinyl instead!

Anyway, the Soundtrack is complete, it's been mastered, and will be released March 30th.

Jeff thanks for the feedback.  Looking forward to seeing the film.    Was only sharing some suggestions for additional tracks, as you mentioned at the top of this thread that one or two bonus tracks might be included.

Too bad about Paris Blues.

Hi Jeff

A follow up on Paris Blues.  Ray shared the below info during a 1997 fan interview/online chat:

http://www.crystal-s...vues.php?cht=03

Quote

Holy Sha asks "Why didn't you include the tunes paris Blues, studio version of celebration of The Lizard, or 66' Indian Summer?"

Ray Manzarek says "Indian Summer has already been released on Morrison Hotel. Celebration of the Lizard, studio, we can't find it. And Paris Blues we're gonna use it some other time."

TheChangeling asks "Ray what happened to Paris Blues?"

Ray Manzarek says "Paris BLues will be out some day; we're going to use it in another context. Paris Blues is an outtake from the L.A. Woman session and we had originally talked about including it in thte box set, but we're saving it for another use. It's a blues song; it's not that special, but it's going to fit in with another concept. I have in mind. It's a funky blues"

Jeff,

Has Ray provided any guidance on how he would like Paris Blues to be issued?   Did the tape erasure occur before or after this interview?   If the erasure had already occurred by the time of the interview, Ray's feedback suggests he still feels it can be released, perhaps in an edited form?

Have you heard Paris Blues and can you characterize how much of the song is erased?  seconds? minutes?

Does Robby by chance have a copy of Paris Blues as well?  Maybe he his copy is complete?

As I understand it, the erasure happened during or shortly after 1997. It is partial, The Doors feel it is not recoverable/release-worthy at this time. They are done discussing it with me  for the time being.

Why the decision to use Depp's recital of the Jim's poetry instead of use some of the unheard 69/70 morrison's poetrry recording or some of the Cinemateque '69 mentioned by hardrockcafe? I really don't understand it.

hopefully with the upcoming JM website some dedicated Jim's solo projects will be released.
Please release the IOW in Blu-ray/DVD and the Matrix Abram's Masters Tapes!!!

Thanks for the feedback on this Jeff.

Regarding the movie, has a street date been set for Blu - Ray / DVD release?  Will the movie contain any bonus footage not in the director's 87 minute theatrical edit?
