Sounds great! The upside of Hoffman's approach is that he uses vintage tube equipment and doesn't employ compression, maximization or digital reverb which can undercut the sound quality. He calls his technique "the breath of of life."

Thanks for getting this music out! I just ordered Felt Forum.
Regarding Matrix, I was curious if the two uncirculating mystery instrumentals on the March 7, 1967 tape have been identified by the band yet.
The jams occur between "Soul Kitchen" and "Get Out of My Life Woman." Care to share the names of these songs with us?
Thanks!
Here's how James Healey, Peter's friend, described the jams when he and Peter Abram listened to the master tapes in April 2009, shortly before sending them to The Doors:
Peter wanted to give one final listen to all four tapes before he sent them off, but there wasn't much time to stop and go back to check things. If they do indeed issue the complete Matrix tapes as promised, I think you will find these instrumental jams interesting.
Cheers,
James

The Doors acquired possession of the original master tapes circa early May of 2009 (about 3 months ago).
It remains unclear if/when Doors will release a complete Matrix set sourced from the masters.

An agreement has been reached between Peter Abram and The Doors re: the Matrix master tapes. James listened to the tapes and has confirmed the "Jam" noted on the March 7 tape box consists of two previously unreleased instrumentals - which may total as much as approx 16 minutes.
James Healey just gave me permission to post this update he emailed me today.
This is why every 6 months I take a break from the Doors- Then I get back into the music, and I always come back to good news and new releases..

If you are able to put out the complete Matrix shows (as on the master tapes), then please pull and discontinue the incomplete Matrix release that is currently out ,in favor of a more complete release. A 'limited edition' of the uncut Matrix masters would be illogical- make it THE official Matrix release.....

Wow, did you ever get it wrong- Felt forum IS coming out. What is with the venom towards the Doors management? Show some fracking gratitude that anything is released at all-
Something tells me if they opened the vaults and put out everything, you'd still find something to bitch about...

Keeping an incomplete Matrix release as the 'official' Matrix release, and offering the complete Matrix shows only as a 'limited edition' doesn't make any sense..
it would be like having an incomplete 'Best of the Aquarius Theatre' performances cd as the official' Doors Aquarius cd, and having the complete shows on a limited edition cd...
If possible, put the WHOLE thing out...

As for recalling the existing shows. I think that is being petty. They released what they had and I think it's nonsense to spend time doing that. Just release the new tapes if they are superior to what is already available and move on.

Kudos to Botnick, the band and you for the Felt Forum box set. The sound quality and packaging are stunning.
Now that Felt Forum is out, I was wondering if you could give us any additional information about the complete Matrix box set.
Is this release still planned for Q1 or Q2 2010? Also, has the band had an opportunity to identify the two previously unheard jams on the March 7, 1967 Matrix tape reel?
Thanks!

I came across this online interview with Greg Shaw, author of "Doors on the Road."
He apparently attended and interviewed the Doors at the Matrix in 1967.
Maybe he has photos, audio recording from the interview. If not, at a minimum, perhaps he recalls the Matrix shows and would be willing to contribute liner notes to the upcoming Matrix box set?
Maybe someone here knows how to get in touch with Mr. Shaw?

Scram: But you also interviewed the Doors, which I thought was strange. Did you think they were kinda hokey?
Greg: No, I loved them. But it was a funny interview... we didnt publish that, did we?
Scram: Yeah, you did!
Greg: All I remember about that was goin to see them at the Matrix, and there were about ten people there. Nobody knew who they were. It was before their first record came out. And we hung out with them for like an hour after the gig, and we talked about drugs! Jim had just gotten back from Mexico, and was talking about these crazy mushrooms hed ate down there and comparing notes (laughing) on exotic drugs that wed tried. That was the only thing I remembered about the interview. I think we were one of the first to interview them, but I dunno if that holds up as journalism.
