Good question, I always thought the font was taken from the elektra logo...

I'm pretty sure it was designed by the Art department at Elektra in New York, which was headed by Bill Harvey at the time. Really great guy, very talented. The label generally came up with that sort of thing, with the approval of the artist/management, etc.

I can't believe it, I never really thought about it! But that is a very good question. But anyways I bet mewsical is right, sounds logical.

Yeah, it does make sense. I can't believe none of us have ever thought of asking this before either.

No, its been posted here before, but not in a while. I think it was as newsical said, the record label graphic arts. Its a great logo, simple and tasteful, and immediatly recognizable.

Fascinating. I never thought of that either, or noticed that the Electkra logo was so similar.
Has anyone noticed the "Elektra" label name is the name of the legendary girl who is the opposite of Oedipus, part of the theme of "The End"? Know what I mean? ...I've always found that to be intriguing.... off the topic of this thread a little, sorry.

I asked Jeff this question ages ago, (when I was on here under another name) and he said the same thing!

I seem to recall, when this came up years ago....someone posted about 100 different fonts. One of them was the writing that used DOORS....and a different font used THE......and, that "the" the Doors use, is a fairly common font. I've seen it used for many things (A Ramones album called MONDO BIZARRO comes to mind....which, also....has a nice cover of Take it as it Comes)
