So this confirms that the access to Jim's place is through the right side entrance Stairwell A. Whats confusing here is the stairwell
is on the 19 Beautreillis side but I assume it spirals round to the center of the building to give access to "Left Building" Apartments..

Thank you, Mina! I hadn't noticed before it's a cigar (with a plastic filter tip looks like). The title is inaccurate - Jim didn't have a beard when he died - but I still want that photo! :)

You are welcome! :) I really like that photo too! Looks like it has been taken when Jim is surprised (maybe a passer-by) and when he just had a bad moment. Someone here said that Jim could grow a beard in a week. So is there a chance that he did grow a beard before he died? In a week or two? :) And this actually could be one of the last photos taken of him in Paris?
BTW his hair looks a bit frizzy in my perspective. ;)

Someone here wanted to see the infamous bathtub. Well, here you are http://www.doorscoll...sp?TOPIC_ID=186
It contains pics from some French documentary.

merci beaucoup to Polished Chrome for the amazing, detailed photos. Who says Doors fans are obsessive? - it just isn't true! :) I'm the same way.

Mina, I think the medical examiner's report said that Jim was clean shaven? I could be wrong. I think the last photos we have of Jim are those taken by Alain Ronay, showing Jim & Pam at the outdoor cafe/inn at St. Leu d'Esserent, that would be around June 30th maybe.

Is this supposed to be the room where Jim died? Looks considerably smaller and declasse:

Okay, it might be a photo from 1970 in Paris.

About the bedroom. It says in italian, that it is the bedroom where Jim's body was brought after the intervention of firefighters (thanks google translator). I was thinking there could have been several bedrooms and this one would be for example for visitors and masterbedroom would be a bigger one where Jim and Pam slept.

The picture of Jim with "frizzy" hair standing and the pictures below that, stating all to be from rue beautrilles 17 (I don´t know how to upload them here). I don't think it is true, because the windows are different in the newer pictures and the radiators are in different places.

Cool pictures Polished Chrome! :) I didn't know you can get pass the two green doors into the corridor without a key.

Hi Mina, This is the picture you referring to.  I believe this is Jim but it was definitely not taken at 17 Rue Beautreillis.  If you look closely at open window you will see individual panes, this building has always had 2 pane vertical windows/doors on both the front and back facades.  My Guess, it's probably his room at L'Hotel where Jim and Pam stayed in May 1971.  And yes the green double doors are secure, but if you go to the bar patio across the street, sit and order enough beers and you will eventually find out how to get in :)

"Okay, it might be a photo from 1970 in Paris." Sorry, I meant 1971, when he had arrived there.

Oh yes, there is a resemblance in the windows, Polished Chrome!

You need to be careful about drinking too much beer or otherwise the trip to the doors will be cut short ;)

The photo was more than likely not shot at l'Hotel (13 Rue des Beaux Arts, 75006 Paris) as Jim was clean shaven by all accounts (both photographic and written) during their short 1-2 week stay there in early May of '71 -- Jim initially shaved his beard off shortly after arriving in Paris mid-March '71.
If it was shot at l'Hotel it must have been on another earlier occasion.. (could be June '70?)

But if we are to assume that this was indeed taken during a temporary and known stay at a hotel but not at the Hotel George V (which is the most probable and more than likely only hotel in which Jim appeared bearded during his '71 Paris stay) or l'Hotel... we must then assume that the photo was probably taken the 1st-2nd week of July 1970 at l'Hôtel de Médicis (214 Rue Saint Jacques, 75005, Paris).
The only problem here is that the room in the photo seems to be a "corner" room judging by the reflection in the mirror showing another window a bit further back on Jim's left-hand side.

Another interesting observation I made while looking a bit closer at this photo is that you can actually see the photographers reflection in that mirrored armoir, resting her(?) elbows on a table while taking the photo.

Hey Universalmind,  some very interesting observations, but no way it is the Hotel de Medicis, that place was a complete dive with tiny
rooms with no room for a full size dresser let alone 2 windows..  Check out this youtube video of that hotel and Jim's room before it was recently gutted and completely redone.

Here is a larger, clearer picture for our analysis.  I can't make out the reflection of the picture taker, tips on where  to look?

The End by Bob Seymore is a good book with a lot of info in it. I suggest anyone interested in Jims death (as morbid as that sounds) should read it.
The Down, Across & Up DVD is now available. It is a multi-region DVD. The DVD and book are available through our website.

Yes, there's indeed quite a few discrepancies between the photo and what's supposed to have been Jims room at l'Hotel Medicis... but from what we have available of info, at least as far as I can gather at the moment, the Medicis theory is the most plausible -- at least in terms of Jims appearance coupled with the "Paris" label. And in one of the other videos you can actually hear the owner talking about how the room used to be quite a bit bigger back in those days.

But, if it's not l'Hotel Medicis it would almost HAVE to be the Hotel George V , or... somewhere that's not accounted for/written about in any of the books as of yet. l'Hotel in May '71 is definetly out of the question. There's of course the distinct possibility that it's not shot in Paris at all... which would make the answer to this issue into anyone's guess.

In better quality versions of the shot you can quite clearly make out the photographers left forearm, elbow firmly planted on a table (left side of photo, right above what appears to be a table covered in white cloth)... you can also juuust make out what appears to be long blonde(?) hair.

Have you noticed a door behind Jim?

This is my guess. The picture has been taken in Hotel George V. Check hotel's pictures http://www.fourseaso...hoto_and_video/ and look at the photo number 4, superior room. The architecture of the room seems to fit. There is the door and the window, which don't look exactly the same, but they could have easily been renovated during the years. :)

Yes, I noticed the door... people on here have been quite adamant that it could not have been shot at a hotel of such stature as that of George V, to me it seems to fall right in the middle between upper-class Hotel George V and l'Hotel Medicis that was seemingly well below average.
The room seems kind of too random with regards to furniture selection and design etc. it also seems to be a bit small, that said... the photo is of poor quality and with regards to the current look of the Medicis hotel room and the fact that 'l'Hotel early May just does not fit I'd agree and say that Hotel George V mid-late March is currently the best candidate -- that would leave Pam as a very probable candidate for the role of photographer as well, matching up with the reflection of a woman with long and straight blonde/reddish hair visible in that mirror to the left.

Holy cow - that is the very definition of opulent. It just about knocked my eyes out, but I like it :)

So the George V is now a Four Seasons?! Mon dieu! I thought French people respected tradition.

Ok...I'm w/Janet...that isn't Jim...frankly he doesn't look tall enough...he looks too lean...his hair is too gnarly to be Jim's...Jim's hair was wavier...that guy's hair looks nappy...I know I've seen that pic before Stephen Davis's book came out...still unsure where it was taken...but I've always wondered if that pic was really of Jim...it just doesn't seem like it's a pic of him...I go w/my gut...
