It is NOT about denying people their civil rights(freedom of speech as you put it),
it is however about maturity and respect for other people and their opinions....
Get it?
You don`t like nice people huh....? :wtf:
[/b]
No don't misunderstand me...
Naturally people should respect one another however,
Debates happen.
People argue with opposing viewpoints..its a natural part of life.
Yes, ocassionally people get out of line but
Most who do -don't do it purposely..
As far as nice people are concerned, I love nice people..but thats not what these new rules will enforce..they will be able to get nice people kicked for perhaps getting a little overheated at times..thats wrong in my opinion..I will be walking on eggshells because I can a little heavy at times but its not meant to be disrespectful or rude, its just a heat of the moment thing and I don't see too many people posting on these boards who really are out to lynch people for no good reason. A few? Possibly, but IMO too few to change the rules of this board.

Ironically, if Jim was on this message board he'd probably end up getting banned.

"Free speech" is one thing
Being a douchebag is something completely different
When you walk in a bar and start arguing and insulting everyone around you, you get kicked out
When you sit in a restaurant and antagonize the people around you, they ask you to leave
When you go in a coffee shop and start freaking out by ranting and raving about one subject or another, people look at you like you're a fucking idiot
Jim Morrison didn't stand for "do whatever the hell you want however you want wherever you want", he stood for the freedom to ADDRESS any subject you want.
Big difference.
Get a clue.

Don't forget The Doors have supplied The Severed Garden for off Topic forums, which do allow more aggression, thus the warning before entering.

I hear that while sober, Jim Morrison was a very articulate and well mannered young man. In the same fashion, staying sober while here, even though one of the founding members had an alcohol problem, would go a long way to prevent "cussing" problems.
You know, inhibitions and all.......

I think the present administration in the white house is a travesty.
I think that the music business has been degraded to the point where the lowest common denominator oft times gets the most tv-airplay.
I believe that in time, every dog has his day.
I believe our reasons (non-reasons) for being in Iraq are unequivocally evil.
I think that the withdrawal of H. Miers for Supreme Court is a red herring.
I think free speech is alive and well until, when and if, someone knocks on my door (no pun intended) and takes me to jail at gunpoint for expressing the above opinions.
I am glad that the day will never come where what most of us have to say will be of THAT much consequence so that we do live in fear....er, I hope.

I'll tell you this..the death of free speech is the death of me....I've been kicked out of message board of my own religion (Christianity) for not being vulgar or offensive and the only solistice I've found is here..because the people of this board are so smart and so feggin free minded...its a shame we would have to stoop so low to what opposed this..things have been fine the way they are...sure every now and then someone will come along just to be a di-k..but its too few and far between as far as I'm concerned..

Here, watch this -
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
See?
You can curse.
Now, watch this:
You know I really dont agree with how Ray and Robby handled the entire 21C thing. I really can't understand why they just didnt start fresh at the start, with a new band name, some new material, new versions and interpretations of old songs, or even covering the old songs note for note while playing some originals also. They didnt need the name "The Doors" to be good musicians or to carry on their continuing legacy...
See that??
You can critique.
Now watch this one:
I don't really dig The Soft Parade. To me it's the only Doors album I could do without.
Speaking your mind, its a good thing!
Now, since we're all moderately intelligent people, I'm pretty sure everybody can figure out the difference between what I just wrote, and this:
"This is fucking bullshit. John is a hypocritical greedy asshole who had no problem taking the millions he felt entitled to from D21C."
or:
"That album sucked! What were they thinking using STRINGS. It's lame. No wonder Morrison wanted seperate songwriting credits."
Most of us can see the differences in those. But some people are just socially impaired and can't understand it, or else just aren't capable of interacting with other people without being offensive. Some people, quite simply, have no social skills, or else are here in a troll capacity getting off on intentionally upsetting people. Trolls you can just ignore and ban outright, but with the socially impaired crowd... well, you can be patient with these kinds of people, you can point out that their social interaction is lousy and suggest different ways of expressing themselves, but in the end some people will just never GET IT. At that point what recourse do the moderators have? These boards should be a place where the reader comes away with something positive about The Doors. Even if people disagree, it shouldnt be a typical internet forum pissing match where people are arguing on the internet just to bolster their own fragile egos and trying to boost their own empty lives.
I'm pretty sure that the Doors and their management simply want a place where people can deal with each other as adults and as friends, to agree and disagree, to share their love of the Doors music, without the negative elements of animosity, anger, pettiness, and spite being anywhere in the picture.
Just treat each other with respect. I think it's that simple.
[/b]
Very well put, Rey.
